MIT’s Mobility Futures Collaborative and Media Lab’s Changing Places have been developing tools to enable more meaningful citizen engagement in the transportation planning process. The project is supported by the Barr Foundation and makes use of open data. Like this website, the project is designed to help address the difficulties people have in understanding transport planning (it’s a complex field after all!) and to provide tools to help them participate more effectively. The developers are testing their tools in case studies in the Boston area. Here’s an excellent description of the project so far: “New tools for a New Era of “Open” Transportation Planning” by Chris Zegras in One Step Blog (Octuber 6th, 2015).
